About Me

Christmas Cruise 2010

WHY I STARTED THIS BLOG

I created this blog/website as a way to write about my observations in my life and my career as an optometrist.  My life started in 1972 and my career started in 2000 and every now and then I put together a few thoughts and words in this blog.  I hope to share with you my perspectives on practicing optometry based on what’s worked and hasn’t worked over the years.  Mixed in every now and then may be some sappy feelings about family or whatnot.

WHO I AM
I was raised in the small South Texas towns of Alice and Freer, TX.  Graduated as a Texas Tech Raider with a degree in business, but figured out before it was too late that I wanted to help people see better.  The University of Houston College of Optometry accepted me and graduated me four years later in the year 2000.

I was fortunate to have a position waiting for me at The Vision Source in Kingwood, TX where I worked for Dr. Glenn Ellisor.  I learned a ton during my 9 years there, but then moved on.

After living in Texas for 37+ years and practicing optometry in the Houston area for about 10 years, I packed up my stuff and my family and moved to the great state of New Hampshire…Keene to be exact. Back to small town living. I joined a wonderful practice, EyeWorks, with Dr. Vincent McMahon.

But after 3 years in NH,  I got homesick.  We moved back to Texas.  San Antonio to be exact, and now I’m back in the Vision Source network working in Olmos Park.  Bring on the good food and hot weather!

MY THOUGHTS ON OPTOMETRY

I believe in the patient experience.  I believe in building loyalty.  Every patient should leave my exam room having just learned something new about their eyes and/or their vision.  Since it’s impossible to discuss everything in a single sitting with a patient, I hope this blog provides a resource for other information.

Keep up with our website and social media to learn more about the practice:

  • Hi Celeste!

I’m doing well. I moved the family to Keene, NH a year ago to join a practice that I’ll be buying in to in a few years. The summers here are pretty mild and the winters are very cold, but I really love it here. How are you and your little ones?

  • Kindle G.

    Dear Dr. Deviney,
I found your blog quite helpful, as I am researching for my term paper on the wonders of the human eye. Could you do a blog post on genetics with eye color? And maybe one on how to keep up eye health?

    • Hi Kindle! I will look for some info on eye color genetics. I remember seeing something not all that long ago that we put on our EyeWorks facebook page. As well as info on maintaining good eye health. You might check our facebook page for previous article links. Just go to https://www.facebook.com/pages/EyeWorks/78519715519. Thanks for reading my blog!
